BET’s Sunday Best Season 9 contestant, Joshua “Josh” Copeland, is a Gospel powerhouse with an anointing that captivates audiences around the world. Motivated by his zeal to “make God proud and point people to Christ,” he is more than another great singer. Joshua is a rarity to his generation, as he exudes unparalleled passion, authenticity, and excellence on every platform he’s given.
A native of Salisbury, MD, Josh began his singing career at the innocent age of nine in his home church’s youth choir. His dedication was regarded at age 11, and he was honored with the role of Worship Leader. Even then, Josh knew he wanted to pursue music professionally and remained diligent to serve in his local church and to cultivate his gifts and talents. During this time, he was given the nickname “Master Joshua Copeland,” which foreshadowed his success on the horizon. At age 12, Josh was afforded the opportunity to open for the legendary Pastor, John P. Kee, as he would eventually go on to share the stage with Gospel music trailblazers, such as Karen Clark-Sheard, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Pastor Tye Tribbett, and Anthony Brown, and many other Gospel greats.
In 2016, Josh’s career catapulted when he joined the 3-time Stellar Award nominated choir, Charles Butler & Trinity. No stranger to the media, he made appearances on BET’s Joyful Noise, The Dorinda Clark-Cole Show, The Word Network, and The Bishop George Bloomer Show. He received recognition for his lead vocals on the nationally acclaimed song, “The Blood,” recorded on both choir’s last two albums Make it (2016) and The Blood Experience (2017). Reaching the top 25 on national gospel radio circuits, the next door to Josh’s destiny had opened. Joshua branched out as a solo artist, and in January 2018, he released his debut single, The Winans soul stirring classic, Uphold Me.
With every accolade and applause, Joshua consistently displays genuine humility and Godly character, which enables him to fly high, yet remain grounded. He embodies a sincere love for God and people while maintaining an “I want to lead people to an encounter with God… I want to help people fall in love with God over and over again” mantra. Joshua has seen countless lives radically transformed from the ministry he’s been entrusted with, and this is only the beginning.
Josh is happily married to the beautiful Tamekia Copeland and they have two daughters and a son, Aalayah, Talia, and Joshua Jr. He is the epitome of a family man and loves his wife and children to life.
